Synopsis

Inspired by the classic novel The Secret Garden, Jane Yates introduces us to a steampunk world of bio-domes, robots and mysteries. Eleven-year-old Aberdeen is so used to being by herself that all she has to fill her thoughts are stories of mighty dragons and grand castles. Aberdeen’s world is soon thrown into disarray however; her parents murdered.

Having no choice, Aberdeen is sent to live with her uncle back on Earth where her fascination into her new surroundings begin to take hold. Untrusting of new people at first, it isn’t long before Aberdeen comes across 3 other children, and taking a risk, befriends them as she tries to adjust to her new home. About the Author

Jane lives in the historic city of Oxford, England with her two spaniels. She works at the Pitt Rivers

museum there too and is amazed and inspired by its wondrous array of objects. Being a museum of anthropology and world archaeology, Jane often finds herself influenced by its exhibitions. And indeed it has helped Jane write a trilogy for children – the Paradox Child series.

Jane is not only a mother, artist and storyteller, but dyslexic too, which only highlights her success even more. Jane refuses to allow the disorder to halt her dreams and continues to enjoy her favourite hobbies. Jane is a lover of steampunk, adventure and children’s stories, which often play a huge role in her own books.

Peering into the mind of Tread, the undead dog –

“What is that? Gray, furry. It’s on my butt! I’ll get it. Spin around, again and again. Not getting closer. Chasing more. There it is, bite! Must pull off butt. Did it!

“Hmm, good. Bony. Must save for later. Bury! Go to soft-floor space. Through magic door. There it is. Ah, good smelly air. Squirrel? Smells like squirrel. Under bush? Smells even better. My bathroom space. Must go again. Freshen up smell.

“Time to bury bone. Soft place somewhere near. By big post stuck in ground. There! Dig dig dig. OK, bone, you stay there. Cover you up.

“Wait, food sound? Food sound! Back thought magic door. Inside! Run fast to food sound. Yes, there is boy! Boy is home. Boy means one thing. Food!

“Hi boy! Love boy. Jumping on boy proves love. And love means food! Boy’s mouth moves. Listen, must listen.

“Sit? Yes yes, sit. Know sit. Shake? Yes, shake. Here is leg. There is your leg. Our legs meet! Up down up down. My leg gone. His leg is holding my leg! No no no. I must sit again. Boy go to get things to make leg stick to me again. Must wait for food!

“But I will wait. Boy good. Boy loves me. Not know much before boy. Only large hard fast loud box. Pain. Dark. Then light. Boy!

“Boy treat me nice. Gives me food. Food!”

A few years ago, K.C. Rose and I got some devastating news: a sweet friend and mother had an extremely aggressive form of breast cancer. Since I had just launched my first novel into the world, I decided to donate all my royalties for a period of months to the family to help them fight this horrible invader. But it wasn’t enough—we knew we could do more. That’s where the concept of the Lizzie Lilac book was born. This book is not only dedicated to our friend (who is now cancer free!!) and her family, but also to all the families who struggle with this disease. Rinny presents Mailbox Monday #8

Welcome to this weeks Mailbox Monday!

Hey everyone! Hope your having a great start to the week after a lovely weekend?

It's Rinny here today bringing you what  I got in my mailbox this past week. So lets see then:

First up

We were extremely lucky and won a £25 amazon voucher from the lovely and awesome author Lizzy Ford. So as we do with all things blog related we went half's. With my voucher i got two new books. (Boy did i have a rough time choosing what to get and still have a lil bit to spend. I am hopeless at making decisions even worse when it comes to two things books and food lol.

The first book i bought was partly down to my new found obsession with free online action packed MMO game Marvel Heroes 2015, if you play let me know. However a author quote on the front really sold it to me " It's The Avengers meets The Walking Dead with a large order of epic served on the side." (Ernest Cline, best selling author of Ready Player One). Say what yup yup yup hell yes I just could not pass the chance up lol.

Next up

The next book i got was the second from my books with my Amazon voucher. I haven't got round to reading the Percy Jackson series but have heard it is amazing. This series is meant to be like that but Norse mythology which i adore. I cannot wait to read this book first in a series and it has beautiful illustrations in it. Think it is classed as middle grade. Love the cover! So beautiful in person.

Hey everyone Rinny here. This week's mailbox is very short and technically a cheat lol. I have a bunch of books i have been waiting on dropping in through the post box for few weeks. Sadly none has this week :( However Mini cupcake had her drama club production at the theatre last week and as a surprise treat i decided to buy her this book she has been dying (her words but we all know the feeling lol) to get her hands on and read. All her friends are reading them at the minute and they are meant to be hilarious.
