New Year, New Book Review! by Kimmy

With the holidays over (boo) and now quickly working our way into January 2014, I have finally finished reviewing my first book of the year.  Over the holidays I spent time catching up on one of my favourite TV Shows 'Supernatural'.  So when I came across this book and read the synopsis, I couldn't resist.

Seeking The Storyteller 
by Jessica Walsh & Briana Lawrence

With all books, I am always excited to read the prologue.  It's like the worm dangling on the hook.  Tempting you to bite, the hook just hidden, waiting to latch on.  Unfortunately the prologue in this book didn't succeed.  Many of the scenes were over descriptive.  The demon seemed too cooperative in providing information and the hunters too easygoing to accept it.  A demon behind plain bars, no bounds or chains, none of the familiar markings, wards etc we are used to seeing or reading about.  No torturing of any kind to get this information.  Nevertheless I continued on with the book.  The following chapters did lead to much more exciting reading.  Alot of which I do feel would have been better for the prologue.

I loved the Scough.  Mira is dead cute, sometimes it felt a little strange to fully grasp her age etc but anywho, all the cuteness that came with the Scough...squeeeee!!!

Unfortunately, there were perhaps too many storylines happening within the book.  A few of which didn't ever really come to anything or just ended too quick.  I would have loved to have seen more focus on some of these i.e Xaver's death or Dox and Cyn to properly play them out and then perhaps ending the book with the entrance into the demon world to seek the storyteller.  I am under the belief that this is going to be a series, so it just seemed strange that it all felt just a little bit rushed and a little bit too much thrown into the first book.  Also some of it just felt unexplained.  For example, we have two hunters who kill demons.  Demons that harm humans.  Yet the demons in the story (apart from the main bad guy) all pose no threat to humans, even when they travelled to the demon world, none crossed their paths.

However, I see potential for this series.  With a bit of work I can really see both authors make something great out of this and I do hope I get the opportunity to read and review the rest of the series.

A heart stopping, soul stealing must read! by Rinny

Hi everyone, when I curled up with a cup of tea in hand to start reading this book, I thought that it sounded interesting, different and was excited. Yet, still I wasn’t expecting the big old wallop up the side of my head this book gave to me, don't worry it was the good kind.  This book not only captured my full attention but had me addicted within the first few pages. By the end of the second chapter I knew my family were going to be neglected until I could finish it.

Soul Reunion by Lorraine Sears

Finished reading – 6/1/14 

I loved the authors writing style and the way she drew you in with intrigue and promise. The characters are well fleshed out and I made near instant connections with them. She lets you into their heads and next thing you know your riding the train feeling their emotions. Even the supporting characters were fleshed out well and you could gain an insight into them. Perhaps helped by the fact that we get the odd chapter from someone else's pov. I have to confess out of everyone Sable is my favourite and I hope we come across him again in many more books in the series. 

If your a fan of paranormal-romance books then you will love this. Not only is there your normal vamps, warlock/necromancers, lupines, shape-shifting, phasing, hellhounds and two new beings in form of death dealers and soul takers. There’s romance, mystery, action, some rather steamy scenes and some rather bloody scenes. There’s a bit for everyone and a whole lot to love. I like the fact that even with the steamy scenes, it isn’t the focus and in no way detracts from the story. Which is great for people who aren't into just the steamy bits. The story I feel is an original, interesting and refreshing change from what’s generally around to read. I could go on forever, more praising bits and bobs of this book, but I’d rather let you find out for yourself. I for one cannot wait for more from this series.  There is so much potential for many more great stories from this bunch of diverse beings and their world.

An oldie but a goodie! by Rinny

Hi everyone,

Rinny here, starting the blog has me all nostalgic. I've been thinking back to previous reviews I have done. I remembered my first author review request (2012) I put myself forward for. Its an oldie but well worth a read. I recently recommended this book to Kimmy. So I thought as were still trying to gain our blogging feet and take our first stumbling steps. I would take the time to share.

The Mirror & The Meretrix (Blackstone & Brenwen #1)

This book is one of those rare treasures, the ones you can spend ages looking for but when you do will stay with you forever. I was hooked from the first chapter and did not wish to put it down. The author draws you in from the beginning into this compelling and enchanted story full of twists and turns and magical interesting worlds and their equally fantastic and varied different fantasy characters and creatures. 

The thing I love most about this book is the refreshingly different take on fairy tales not only does it take you back to all your favourite childhood characters but the author sheds a different light to them and i think that is wonderful as we never grow up fully just grow older.The combination of of fantasy, law and fairy tale is creative, different and very imaginative and i think works fantastically. I think the book is well written and very descriptive that you can picture every detail of characters and surroundings as you read which i love as it makes it more real and fun to me. I could see this series as a TV show or film series and i would be first in line to watch. 

The characters are all interesting different and relatable in their own ways.  Elliot makes a great main character although I have to admit some of the more sidelining characters I enjoyed equally and have soft spots for.  There is many laugh out loud moments through the book and you will not be disappointed with this book I cant wait to join them on future cases and see the series develop into hopefully many more books. A enjoyable read and already have recommended to many family members and friends.

Happy 'belated' New Year & Welcome!

Hello everyone!

Rinny here just wanted to leave a little post wishing everyone a Happy New year. Slightly belated as today's the day we all think fondly of festive memories, whilst rushing the kids to school or to work and back and the daily chores and bores in between.

As you can see we are a new Blog, but not new to reviewing or sharing our opinions at the top of our lungs lol just ask our long suffering hubby's. So please bear with us as we tinker and potter around finding our feet and getting comfortable. We have a few new reviews in the making and few oldies to share in the meantime.
